Our team is seperated into several different sub-teams, which each in turn have an equally important role on the team. The sub-teams each have a unique and vital role on our team. All of our sub-teams have unique mentors, leaders, and students.
The Engineering team is a very vital part of the team, as they design, prototype, and build the robot. They are the part of the team which tries different ideas and tests them to determine which ideas will work the best for the current season's game. This team is absolutely vital to the team, and we couldn't exist without this large part of the team.
Programming creates the ability for the robot to recieve and perform commands. The robot does these things only because programming dictates the command inputs and outputs of the robot. If Programming were not a part of the team, we would have the robot but no way to control it or command it to use the functions it is designed too. Programming also allows the robot to perform properly in autonomous or hybrid mode. Programming is another major part of our team, and they are yet another part we could not exist without.
Media is another major part of the team, they are the journalism, photo, graphics, and website design teams all put together to form what is our media/marketing team. We take photos, document everything that happens, write the chairman's essay, design and maintain the website. The media team, although it may seem minor, is very much needed for our team to function properly. The Media team helps do anything not directly related to the robot, which is still a very vital part of the robotics team.
Team Spyder isn't all about just these small parts of Robotics as a whole, we also do much outside of the classroom and FRC events that we compete in. A lot of what we do is meant to help better our society and community as a whole, while others are simply other programs we use to help better our team, and even help create future Engineers and Cyber-security officials.
Team Spyder aids in the maintenence of several VEX teams at the middle school level. Each year we help these teams with whatever they need. Team Spyder mentors these schools, which include: Twin Peaks Middle School, Meadowbrook Middle School, Mesa Verde Middle School, Bernardo Heights Middle School, and Black Mountain Middle School. For more information on outreach, please visit our Outreach page.
Team Spyder also has a small group within our team that competes in the Cyberpatriot national competition. Last year, we ranked 10th in the nation and competed in the World Championship in Washington D.C. While Cyberpatriot operates somewhat indepententely of Team Spyder, they still are a major part of our team. They all contribute to our team in other areas as well. For more information, please visit the Cyberpatriot page.
Team Spyder is a strong advocate of E-Waste and recycling, as is seen by one of our biggest sponsors, Call2Recycle. Each year, Team Spyder hosts an E-Waste event at Poway High, where we take the unused and unneeded electronics of Poway residents and use it as a team fundraiser. E-Waste and recycling are a major point of our team, and we constantly advocate it to both those within our team and those outside of it.
