By joining Team Spyder, you also have the ability to get a varsity letter. However to do this you must:
1. Be on Team Spyder 1622 for at least 2 years.
2. Apply for at least 2 scholarships for each year you are on the team.
3. Have a leadership position in the sub team you are on.
4. Meet the minimum attendance requirements to pass in the team's 6.5 period class.
5.Embody the spirit of FIRST, “Gracious Professionalism”.
1. Come to room N3106 or N3107 talk to Mr. Parr or Mr. Dohm. (Either during the normal school day or on Wednesday from 7-9 pm or Saturday 9am-5pm.)
2. Ask Mr. Dohm for a form packet or you can print the forms here.
3. Fill out the forms so you can be a part of the team officially. This needs to be done ASAP
4. Register with first robotics at usfrist.org
5. Talk to Mr. Dohm again to get the 6.5 forms. One form should be labeled Robotics A and the other Robotics B. You and your parents need to sign the forms.

Becoming a member of a FIRST Robotics team is a great choice for almost any student. For those who are considering careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) fields, participating on a FIRST Robotics team can offer amazing opportunities for hands-on experience. But FIRST is not just for the engineers of the future; being on a team is a great experience for people with career interests of any sort. As a mentor of Team Spyder, John Campbell, has described it, “you'd be shocked at how much this is like the work environment.”
In addition to preparing students for the work place, being on a FIRST team can help students who plan on going to college. FIRST Robotics participants are eligible for over $14 million dollars in college scholarships.
Joining Team Spyder has team-specific benefits as well. At Poway High School, students are given school credit for participating in FIRST Robotics. Concerning school credit, being on the team is the equivalent of taking an elective class. Possibly the best part of being on Team Spyder is meeting the other students and mentors on the team, who are intelligent, inspiring, encouraging, and fun!
